Star Spangled Scraps Give-Away!!

New fabric lines are arriving and scraps are overflowing, so that means it's time to send these Star Spangled Liberty scraps to a new home!

Star Spangled Liberty Block of the Month patterns are shipping to all participating quilt shops right now as the program begins next month!

As you can imagine, after piecing both versions of the Block of the Month quilt, and the new Tokens of the Past: Union Forever trio quilts, I have fabric scraps with pieces big a small.....red, lights and blues, and I have enough for several winners!

Can you make use of some of my Star Spangled Liberty fabric scraps?

I'm curious about your fabric tastes....what fabrics never, ever make it into one of your quilts?

I work with and create fabrics that are Civil War reproductions, or choose to use fabrics that play very well with them.

The fabrics I love would not be considered bright by any means, even if they are true to CW reproductions.  I can't add some of your favorites like cheddar....I just can't!  I don't work in chrome yellow or poison green, and even my very favorite red won't be added if it's too bright.  I'm not a lover of polka dots either.  Don't own one printed dot, and I'm very picky about stripes, too.

We all have our likes and dislikes, and I'd like to know what colors and prints never make it into your quilt!

Leave me a comment about your fabric dislikes for a chance to win some Star Spangled Liberty scraps.

For fairness to everyone, only comments to this blog post are eligible.  If you comment anonymously, please consider leaving your email address in your comment.  I have had more than a few anonymous winners never collect their prizes because they don't check my blog post to see if they won, and their prizes went to someone else.  I regret that I can only ship to addresses within the U.S.

I'll announce the winners on Monday, along with an introduction of my next fabric line for Marcus Fabrics, coming very soon!

  1. I too am a Civil War person, but when making quilts for the grandkids, I have to go with brighter colors for them. I can't really think of a color I wouldn't use if it's the right shade, but there are shades of green I would never use.

  2. I am not a lover of batiks or brights! I don't like the texture and feel of the batiks and brights are just that, too bright. I love the muted, warm tones that come with civil war collections. Would love to win your scraps!

  3. I love reproduction fabrics. Big prints, except a special one for a border, never make it home with me. Brights, batiks and stripes stay at the store for those who enjoy that. I would love your scraps because those fabrics definately fit in with my favorites! Sue Henningsen

  4. I will not use White on White. EVER! Give me repros in Red, Black, Blue, Green, Gold, Orange, Cream even White shirtings are fine but those White on Whites are icky. :)

  5. I have to say that I am a traditional quilter in both patterns and fabrics but I have sewn with most including brights. This spring at the AQS show in Paducah I did buy a batik quilt kit so that will be a new one for me. My granddaughter will love it. I make things for people I love so I work with just about anything. I'd love to win this package of scraps - they are gorgeous!!

  6. I don't use brights or batiks. I love reproductions and muted colors, and very traditional fabrics. One of my close sewing buddies loves Kaffe, and I just don't get the appeal. I've been working with scraps a lot lately, and would love the chance to include some of yours!! Thanks for the chance.

  7. I love the civil war reproduction fabrics but I have used just about all kinds of fabrics and colors making quilts for kids and grandkids. I am not a fan of the modern quilting fabrics, but if someone wanted me to make them a quilt, I will use what they like. I am drawn to the reproduction fabrics and love red, white and blue quilts! ! !

  8. I only sew with 2 kinds of fabric; reproduction Civil War prints and when making a baby quilt, 30's reproductions. I won't buy a bright or batik ever!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I play with it all and make it work in some kind of project even if not a quilt, a bag or pillow. I do draw away from the color orange though (cheddar is a yellow).

  10. My dislikes are contemporary fabrics and batiks. They just don't catch my eye like the historical tones of civil war and reproduction fabrics. I don't care for real bright fabrics, but do love polka dots and 30's and 40's reproduction. I make a lot of red, white and blue quilts and projects and I would be "over the moon" thrilled to win these scraps. Scrappy quilts are "my thing"... You are a very talented designer and I love your patterns!

  11. I do not use batiks. I am afraid they will bleed. I like about all other types of fabric. I do have some that do not make in my quilts, because I just don't want to cut them up.

    Would love your scraps.

  12. I never use batiks and brights are used for donation quilts. I love traditional colors and CW repros. Thanks for the giveaway!

  13. I don't have any batiks in my stash. They can be pretty but I never feel the
need to use them. I also do not like brown. Repros are a favorite of mine.
I could certainly make use of your scraps.

  14. I have a very difficult time with purple or lavender - don't like them - but have used them when it was the only color that would work. For me to use them there has to be lots and lots of green also.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's a hard question. I guess it's easier to say what I like. One thing I can think of is fabric with birds. I have no problem using fabric with cute, cartoon-like birds if I'm making a baby quilt or one for a child. It's the Christmas/floral fabrics that have more realistic birds that just don't trip my trigger.

  16. I use all types and colors. They all work together.

  17. Hi Pam! Your description of fabric dislikes made me smile!! Now my fabric dislikes: um...don't like neons, or animal prints, not crazy about orange. I too, tend toward CWR fabric or fabric that plays well with it. I love the old fashioned look! In fact my family tell me that my quilts look vintage!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to win some of your wonderful fabric scraps!

    Be blessed this day!

  18. My first thought was that I love all fabric. But I just don't use white on white or printed plaids or Asian prints or anything with gold embossing. I enjoy experimenting but I keep returning to warm country.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  19. I'm relatively new to quilting so have tried a variety of styles and fabrics. I don't like the popular, modern limey greens; or lemon yellows; or most purples. These days I seem to favor the warmer, calmer colors. One of these days (and over time) I hope to acquire a collection of 1800s prints. Thanks so much for offering your scraps. They are my favorite way to sew quilts.

  20. I'm a traditional quilter at heart, love repro fabrics, and almost never choose the big modern geometric prints. Only exception would be if I made a specific request quilt for one of my grandkids. Thanks for offering up your scraps, our quilt ministry group could make good use of them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm not a fan of large florals or anything lavender or some purples. I'm also not a fan of neons or anything with cartoon characters (unless it's for the I Spy quilt I'm working on for my grandsons).

  23. Those would all play nicely with my scraps. I don't like bright fabrics, but do use them from time to time.

  24. I would love to give your scraps a new home, Pam. Our color palettes are so similar, and that's a good thing. Although I do appreciate the modern, bright colors that seem to be very popular today, they just aren't for me or my home. I'm a CW and reproduction gal, through and through!

    Keep those beautiful fabrics comin'.

  25. My very favorite fabrics are Civil War Reproductions. I don't care for 'modern' fabrics or quilts. I love the reds, browns, golds, blues in reproductions fabrics. Thank you for 'sharing' your scraps.

  27. I use a wide variety of fabrics, including brights, but I sew quite a bit for my grandkids. Some fabrics that come to mind that I never buy are oriental prints, big flowery prints and fabrics that have gold metallic. Thanks for a chance for your beautiful fabric.
Congratulations on your new line coming soon.

  31. HI,seem to like the traditional, or Colonial colors best! Looking at my stash I see I seldom use much green, except at Christmas time. Thank You for your Blog+this giveaway! msstitcher1214@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  32. CW repros are my favorites, and I will use them all, though I do tend to stay away from the brightest of the double pinks, and I prefer the muddier colors. I love your dusty pinks in the Pin Money line!
I also love the rich colors of batiks (unlike most commenters here), but whatever I make from them usually gets gifted away from my home, where they would not fit in.
Don't use much of the 30's repros, though they are cute--just not me.
Definitely not a modern quilting gal here, and I only use novelty prints for grandchildren.
No need to enter me, but I wanted to give you my two cents worth. : )

  33. Hi, Pam! I'm a regular reader of your blog but don't take the time to comment. However, I'm recovering from rotator cuff surgery and can't sew for a few more weeks. (This I have time to post a comment😊). I just moved my fabric into a new sewing room and sorted it all. I've got quite a bit that I'm keeping but a few large florals and the Asian prints someone talked me into buying will be donated to my guild.

  34. Purple doesn't seem to find it's way into my quilts. Not because I don't like it but because it's hard to find. Civil war is most of my stash. I keep saying I'm going to make a red, white and blue quilt but haven't so far. Red Red Red is my favorite color. Grandma Rita ritanicholsec@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  35. Although I think they are beautiful, batiks are not my style and I have never used them in a quilt. I enjoy using bright and novelty prints for children's quilts but I love traditional/Civil War colors and style.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brightly colored fabrics aren't used in my quilts unless I'm making it for my sister who loves bright colors.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like most fabrics but for some reason Kaffe Fassett prints just don't appeal to me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have found that my fabric loves/styles have changed over the years. I am not a fan of bright colors. Or Batiks. Being a mom of 2 son's and a grandson I've never had flowers and frills, so I don't ever buy those types of fabrics either. I like warm fabrics colors that are primitive, civil war and homespun; I haven't found one of those fabrics that I don't like. Americana is also a love of mine.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Batiks never make it into my quilts. Most other fabric styles do though I tend to like the reproduction fabrics or prim style best.

    ReplyDelete
  40. my dislikes are few since i wus all types of fabrics. i think my favorite is civil war with attention to red white and blue followed by cheddar and double pinks and then asian, i think it is the indigos that are so appealing. thanks for the chance

  41. I cherish my reproduction stash. They are my favorites to sew with. My least favorite fabrics would be purples. I do have some in my stash. Very few. In reproduction fabrics they are a little better. But purple just seems a dreary color to me. Your Star Spangled Liberty quilt looks absolutely amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  42. My dislikes are anything bright! I don't care for batiks or "modern" colors - I'm definitely a quilter who likes Civil War reproductions and Kansas Troubles color palettes. Through the years I have "grown" and can appreciate the time and effort that goes into all quilts. Thanks for offering a give away!

  44. I just ran across a little saying on Pinterest this morning that goes...My Favorite Color is Autumn...I would extend that by adding My Other Favorite Color is Spring! My least favorite has been 1960's aqua, the one they used on travel trailer appliances! I have always had an aversion to that color...and of course that's the color my Mom wanted to paint every room in the house! Now I have to admit, that with all the nostalgia about kitchen appliances and travel trailers, it's begun to grow on me...I'm kind of getting a taste for eggplant these days too...but in that case, I'm still much more fond of the color than the food! I'm with you on the brights...unless I'm doing something along the lines of a whimsically funny Halloween quilt. It's kind of more about combinations of colors and styles for me. I'm not a big fan of 50's Pink and Black and I'm not big on big modern geometrics and gigantic florals would be more likely to wind up as backing. While I love the Diawabos and the wonderful wovens that I'm pairing with wool. I can't warm up to literal Asian prints...while I love house block quilts, it's no pagodas for me!
I'm a delicate vine and plaid kind of girl who loves a generous helping of whimsy and warmth!
I'm getting so excited for the day that the first section of Star Spangled Liberty lands in my mailbox! My goal is to add a new patriotic quilt, runner or pillow to my home every year!

  45. I have to say that Batiks just don't do it for me. It's reproduction fabric all the way. Just love the civil war style and colors. Right now I'm piecing the Tribute to Judie quilt and enjoying it very much.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't like to sew with novelty prints, K Fassett types or really modern fabrics. I'm good with most others and change up depending on who I'm sewing for or what occasion or time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  47. My favorites are civil war and reproduction fabrics. Fabrics that I really don't like is large bright flowery fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I started out with just loving civil war fabrics but now I seem t o gravitate to just about anything. Never ever used pink in quilts and now I love a pop of that color. Would love to win these scraps for a Quilts for Valor group that I am in. You quilts are amazing and thanks for sharing with us.

  51. I love many fabrics and so many colors are appealing BUT because I only make doll quilts and smaller, I only use reproduction fabrics- they are my favorite. I do not use batiks nor do I use modern. I might appreciate many styles but confine my quilting to civil war fabrics when possible. Your work is amazing and thank your this wonderful opportunity!

  52. I love civil war prints and anything that look old and worn out already. I like to use all the colors but they must be on the dark side of the color wheel. Primary colors are out. Red, white, and blue complement each other so well, and I am just crazy for scrap quilts. It is all about the variety. Hope I win!!!

  53. I don't like floral fabrics too busy and bright.. also don't like homespun fabrics. just getting into civil war fabrics or that look like it. not too fond of 30's either too busy when put together. would love to win your fabric. I love scrap quilts

    ReplyDelete
  54. I guess my least favorite color (if i have to pick one-hard to do because I like any and all scraps, no matter what color) would be an Army green with a bit more brown to it! But, they work nice as blenders and in small amounts.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The fabrics that never make it in to my quilts are batiks. I have some to work with, bought them on a whim because everyone else was using them but I just don't like the feel of them. I hope to someday change my mind and use what I have, but I don't plan on adding to the stash! :)

Thanks for the chance to win the scraps! I want to make a flag tumbler quilt so they would be great in one!

  56. K Fassett prints will NEVER be in a quilt of mine. I do not like florals unless they are realistic and I'm not into sewing with novelty prints. The prints of "weird " looking quilting ladies are not to my taste, either. I love reds, blues, creams and greens and they can be brighter shades, too. Lime green is my neutral!!!! I love the color of your prints and the prints are soothing. Thanks for your consistent good taste!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think I have never met a color I didn't like but prefer dark or medium tones. Bright colors rarely show up in one of my quilts!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Strips. I don't like them I think they are hard to use. I like smaller prints.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have a lovely stash of batiks which never make it into my quilts. They are pretty to look at, but my quilts use Civil War repros and primitive looking fabrics.

  61. I started out learning to quilt about15 years ago. On a tight budget, I would always look for budget fabrics. Quite often that would be "off" colors. I don't have to settle for those so much anymore.....I like clean colors and repro fabrics....muted colors that come from a clean base color. So, loud, bright colors are not my friends....I am not sure I would ever make a Hawaiian style quilt unless it was white. I also do not like modern prints. Thanks for giving me a chance to get some of the fabrics I love!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I really don't have any fabric dislikes. I love reproduction fabrics the best and work with them the most for myself. I like making baby quilts and then I get to play with fun fabrics in those. Thank you for the chance to win. Hugs, Sandi. szil949@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  63. You'll see cheddars in my quilts, but never orange. I use lots of barn reds and sages, but don't like clear greens or reds. Most of my quilts are scrappy reds, blues, browns, tans and blacks. Love the homespun plaids too. The more the merrier. I'm a civil war, muddy colors kind of gal.

  64. I do enjoy scrappy quilts. But my fabric is segregated into several categories. I have electrics and conversationals for kid donation quilts. I have No Modern fabrics at this time. Doesn't float my boat. I do love reproductions and tend toward medium to darker tones mixed with neutrals. I really live patriotic themed quilts personally and for QOV type donation quilts so your newest quilts and patterns are tapping my fun meter. If you need a happy place to send your precious leftovers (scraps sound simply not the way to describe those charming pieces) northern Wisconsin is the place to send....and of course to me.....thanks for the opportunity and for making more delightful patterns and fabrics

  65. I totally DO NOT like Batiks. I do not like working with them and I don't own one little piece. If I am gifted batiks, I will give them to a friend. My other dislikes are neon colored fabrics, chevrons, polka dots, and extremely loud prints. I am drawn to civil war reproductions, calicos and the tiny/small prints. I am working on a wool on cotton project right now. Your patriotic fabric will play nicely with my stash. Thanks, Roxanne (F340@aol.com)

  66. Thank you for a chance to win those lovely scraps! CWR are my very favorite<3 I love small ditsy prints:) I am not a big fan of light, I don't do bright or batiks, cutsie or large bold prints. Scraps and scrappy are wonderful in CWR:)

  67. I just have a hard time with fabric with a lot of stripes. I just seem to avoid it. But love red quilts! Your fabric is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I will never buy cartoonish or novelty prints.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I tried getting "out of my box" and bought yellows and pale grays to make a quilt. Well that quilt became a wall hanging that is buried in the basement and the rest of the fabric was donated to some of my more modern quilting buddies.

I love fabrics, colors, patterns and designs. I now stay true to myself. Thanks for a chance .

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lavendar or bright yellows are not my favs. Otherwise I like scrapiness!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm not much of a "blue" person but got very inspired this year with all the patriotic quilts that have been posted on blogs and Instagram since Memorial Day. Now I'm collecting blues but have a long way to go. Love your new line!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I haven't met a 19th century repro I didn't want. Have bought repro scraps from guild sales and friends having sales. Even the ugly are welcome and loved, LOL. My favorite quilts are scrap quilts, so the more variety the better. Will gladly make room and I promise my scraps will welcome and play well with the newbies.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I like most all fabrics but favor civil war or prairie style. One thing I would never buy is bright or odd colored large scale prints. They just don't appeal to me.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can't get away from reproduction fabrics no matter how I try! I'd LOVE to incorporate some of your "scraps" into a quilt of mine. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm not at all fond of many of the modern big geometric fabrics and also brights of any kind just don't find their way into my stash!
Thanks for the chance to win and I can't wait to see your new line!

  76. I prefer sewing with civil war/ reproduction fabrics. I'm not a fan of large floral prints and pastels. I would enjoy having some of your scraps to add to mine. Thanks for the chance!

  77. Fabrics dislikes -- Hmmmm!! Personally, I'm not really fond of florals, especially large florals. I love civil war repros. My favorite fabrics, tho, are red, white & blue like the scraps your giving away! Just the colors I use & would love to add them to my own stash! Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am a "color person" I love it. I , believe, it all has it's time & place. My taste continues to rotate. I don't consider my self trendy either. As of late, I'm drawn to civil war and have always had a love for classic red, white, & blue. Looking at my stash, I seem to stray from purple, but have a few pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I enjoy the vintage and antique look of the Civil War reproductions but I got rid of all my 1930's stash. Never got hooked onto batiks, either, though I might in the future. And I never met a cheddar that I didn't like!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I love Civil War reproductions so I don't play well with pastels or Batiks! My favs small prints in reds, blues, browns, greens, and some cheddar yellow with tans and beiges - no white! Love your scraps and would love t play with them! Thanks!

  84. I like every color of fabric but for some reason I dislike metallics I never use anything with gold or silver on it even if it was my favorite color orange if it has metallic on it I won't buy it

    ReplyDelete
  85. I love the scraps, and the quilt they came from. I don't use child-themed (juvenile) prints very often. They're only used when I'm making a donation quilt. I may use the scraps in a scrap quilt, but they are usually cut up small by then!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have a difficult time working with novelty fabrics. I tend to migrate to the earthy tones of reproductions. And I LOVE your new line

    ReplyDelete
  87. Every fabric has it's place, but some just don't play well with others! Every generation has their favorite styles and I respect the designers that create the fabric. Sometimes there are fabrics I don't use because I just can't bear to cut them up!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I love, love your fabric. Totally dislike PURPLE!! Will sew with brights for my granddaughter if i have too. I am currently sewing a batik quilt just to see what the fuss is all about? My friends are into batiks but not me, once is enough! I have to admit i lean toward the dark side! Darker blues, reds, gold, and greens are for me. Thanks for a chance to win.

  90. I love almost every type of fabric print, except for animal prints. Civil war prints are my favorite, but I would have to say I do not like the color poison green.

    ReplyDelete
  91. So far I am not a fan of the new modern fabric and modern quilt movement. I realize that is why fabric manufacturers make all different kinds of prints and collections. I love civil war and 30's fabric, along with batiks. Would love to win some of your scraps, I enjoy making scrap quilts. carolg51@hotmail.com.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I gravitate towards fabrics that are the creams, rustic reds/blues/gold and greens. These colors seem to give a warm homey feel that makes you want to wrap the quilt around you. It is difficult to try to use bright neon type colors as I don't know how to use them to get a balanced feel in a quilt. Civil fabric are perfect for me! o2quilt@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  93. Batiks will never, ever be found in one of my quilts. They just don't appeal to me at all. I love civil war and reproduction fabrics. I've even ventured into brights for my grandchildren's quilts!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I love repros especially CW. I have daughter-in-laws who lean toward modern. They love batiks and brights so if I want them to use quilts I make in their favorites. I am not a fan of 30s so never buy or use.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I love civil war reproduction fabrics! I am not drawn to the bright, modern type prints, nor am I a fan of batik fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I am not a fan of the bright modern fabrics or quilts either for that matter. I admire the quilts made of them, but it's not my taste. I'm overwhelmed by all those bright colors; often worrying that it's going to be too busy for my eye.

I much prefer the softer look of a quilt. I love pastel quilts that remind me of the depressions years, I love the Civil War prints that look like antiques when they're new. They just seem more comforting for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Your color pallet is right up my alley! I love all things red/white/blue. I NEVER buy or sew with batiks. I know batiks are very popular but nothing about them appeals to me.

  98. This is easy. I was literally born on my grand parents farm. Gma made all her clothes and quilts out of feed sacks, worn out clothes repurposed, etc. "Pretty" was NOT in her closet or on her bed. She taught me to quilt. So-o-o "pretty" fabrics, bright fabrics, modern fabrics, etc. are NOT in my stash either!!!

  100. I usually use 'Civil War' or 30s, some tomes batiks. I NEVER use Kaffe F. Fabrics and seldom use any florals (unless it's a shirting). My fav.is 19th Century conversationals (real or repro).

  101. I steer clear of large flowery, busy prints. I have a tendency to gravitate to same genre. I have tried to get out of my comfort zone and used other combinations for quilts.

  103. I'd love to win your scraps as I am really drawn to patriotic quilts and like to make them year round. In fact my house is decorated in patriotic things from June to September. The colors I don't use, like many others who commented, are the brights and black and white pallettes.

  104. I guess I'm not a very discerning fabriholic... I like it all - from civil war to modern to brights and batiks - it all finds a home in my studio!! That could explain the mess, huh?!? Thanks for the opportunity!

The yellow and green that you mention will never be in my quilts either. I also have never used modern fabrics, but someday that might change especially as I start having great-grandchildren born. Who knows:)

    ReplyDelete
  106. I love nearly all fabrics, from the Civil war styles, 1930's batiks, many modern prints, brights, polka dots, etc... What I don't like is plaid, stripes, and I would never, ever use camouflage.
    My email is: bestbelle2010@aol.com
    Thanks!

  107. Fabrics that never make it into my quilts are the very washed out and/or so overly busy you can't make out the patterns.

  108. I guess if I had to choose one color that I never use in a quilt it would be pink . I might only use it for a baby quilt for a girl. Yellow is another color I rarely use- although it can add a bit of sunshine to make other colors pop ! Reds, whites, and blues are my favorites and I love all of your fabric collections .

  109. Love your new fabrics and I would like to play with your scraps!
I don't use batons or many bright fabrics. I do love scrap quilts so it's fun to use a variety and throw in some of those strange ones for interest.

  112. I make a lot of scrappy quilts and recently really got into CW and reproduction fabrics. I love the colors and the small prints. I can usually find some project for most of my scraps, but I am not fond of really bright yellows and oranges or kid themed fabrics like little mermaid or that sort of thing.

  113. Purple never passes my squint test. Probably not yours either😉

  114. my hubby and i have plans to make 3 quilts of valor, one for each of my 2 brothers and one for his brother. these scraps would be sooo welcome because i usually quilt with earth toned fabric or darker primitive fabrics. i really need reds the most so i would be tickled to receive these.
probably 25 years ago i made a batik quilt and that was the last time i ever used batiks. pretty safe to say there are none in my stash....
thank you for the chance to be gifted these scraps!

  115. I'm not a bright fabric person...I love the mellowness of the civil war prints--and all the little designs. In answer to what color never makes my quilts, a while back, I would have said green. But my husband made me a nice quilt ladder for my displaying my quilts--and there were the green! I have never used yellow. I am thinking I would like to make a cheddar and indigo quilt soon as it has a very classic look. It would be a treasure to work with the cuttings from your new line!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I love all different fabrics. I tend to go to the Civil War reproductions but it depends on the quilt. I guess my less used color of fabric would be purples. Love the Stars Spangled Liberty Scraps!

  118. There are not many colors I would not use.. It is much easier to tell you what I do like. I love civil wars,
amish solids. After some thought, I realized I do not use pink either except for baby quilts.. If I could I would use a shade of red in every quilt. This was fun to read all the responses!

  120. I Love fabrics, but then I stop and the no about those old mauve and country blue, yuck. Funny thing I just removed some wallpaper boarders in those colors. Sew on ~ ~ ~

  121. I hesitate to write down in black and white what fabrics I don't like or would never use. I've learned to never say never. Who said they would never use the Kaffe Fassett fabrics when they first came out? And now who owns the largest stash among her friends? Yep, me. And when solids made a resurgence a few years ago who said, "Been there, done that in the 1980s?" And who now owns 2 tubs full? Yep, me.....again. And who thought Civil War era quilts were beautiful but said I'll never do that? And who found Barbara Brackman's "Stars in a Time Warp" year long study in 2015? And who cannot resist history, stars and fabrics when they are combined in a study each week of the year? And who has now started collecting these special fabrics and has been making stars with them? Guilty, again! So I think I will not put anything down for what I dislike or would never use-----I fear the consequences! But hope I can be considered for a scrap bag. These scraps would look lovely in my next (fifth) mini reproduction quilt! What a wonderful fabric collection. Can't wait for Monday to see what the next one will bring. quilterd@pullman.com

  122. I have only discovered civil war fabrics in the last 5 years or so and I am hooked!! I have a hard time using solid fabrics, large striped fabrics, and big plaids/homespuns. The solids just look too plain to me. And I have fabrics in my stash that I loved when I bought, but sometimes I look at them and just can't seem to figure out a project for them.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I too am a fan of reproduction fabrics. I can say though that since I am often commissioned to make quilts for others, I have had to sometimes use fabrics that I thought I never would. For example large, bold floral prints nor black and grey. Over the years I have stepped out of my comfort zone of reproductions and the end result has been quite surprising. Thanks for the chance to win some of your beautiful scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I am not found of batiks and novelty prints. I have loved civil war and reproduction fabrics for a very long time. Quilts made with these fabrics seem to never go out of style. The poison green from that era is questionable. I did a sew-along recently and decided to try modern prints in one quilt and civil war in another. The quilt blocks were the same pattern in both quilts. The civil war quilt is very striking! The modern is just okay. I will never tire of civil war and reproduction fabrics. Would love to win your Star Spangled Liberty scrap give away. Love patriotic fabrics. Carol Gouveia

  132. A fabric that I will never use would be a vivid purple floral. I avoid purple unless it is a muted reproduction or a muted pastel. I don't use novelty prints in my quilts, only for special gifts or pillowcases. My favorite fabrics are the Civil War reproductions. Every quilt I make using these i love.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I love Civil War and Reproduction fabrics! The one color that I will never use in a quilt is white....I prefer to use off whites, creams, beige and tans. I am not a fan of the new modern fabrics, bright bold fabrics, metallics or batiks. I would love to make use of your scraps. I have a EPP patriotic wall hanging project I want to make but don't have the right fabrics....these scraps are perfect! Thank You!!

  134. Hi, my name is Bonnie and I am excited to have a chance at winning some of your stash. I use to buy 30's fabrics before I retired, and now since my health has improved somewhat, I have been searching and reading up on Civil War fabrics, miniature quilts, wall hangings, etc.

You wanted to know what fabrics I don't like, and colors....WELL, I DO NOT LIKE BATIKS. (Gosh I hope I spelled that one right.) They just don't make any sense to me. I own not EVEN a scrap of a piece of batik fabric. I like to see and understand my fabrics....anyway, my colors I don't really have are blues and Civil War Pinks... I love those two colors, but for some reason I just don't find them too often on sale on-line. I live in a small town, and basically have to go about 30-45 min. to find a fabric store, or go to WalMart. There is not much else around. So much for Central Florida. Besides, I haven't driven in months, so when I do get the chance to go to a fabric/quilting store....look out!!!

Sorry I wrote so much, but thanks anyway for the chance to win some of your beautiful fabrics.

    Yours sincerely,
    Bonnie Machemer

  135. I am a traditional quilt lover through and through. I got rid of all my Hoffman's, batiks, brights etc. several years ago. I just decided I would concentrate on traditional quilts and miniatures. All I buy any more is Civil War with the occasional 30's thrown in now and then. Your scraps will work great in my quilts. Thanks for your consideration.

  136. Thank you for the chance to win your scraps. I love scraps! As much as I love CW reproductions, I find I've never been drawn to poison green and I tend to stray from pinks if they are too bright. 146. I've only been quilting for about a year and a half and the only thing I have a hard time incorporating is stripes. I'm just not fond of them. I began quilting about a month before my mother passed away, so I inherited not only her sewing machine, but 1/5 of her stash - a great inheritance! Because I love making hexies, every quilter I know in the area has given me scraps! Your scraps would make a wonderful addition to my hexie collection. BTW, I ONLY have 6 hexie quilts started :-)

  150. I love Civil War fabrics too. I'm not a big fan of purple or batiks so unless it's a very neutral batik, you won't find it in any of my projects. More favorites are colonial colors ... deep reds, navy and colonial blues, creams and Hunter greens. I stay away from brights unless they're for a baby or child's quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  151. There are basically 3 things I don't care for -- metallics, cutesy novelty prints, and the color pink. I recently made a western quilt for my youngest great grandson where I needed to fussy cut boots and spurs, arrows and feathers, etc. It is cute for a baby boy, but I couldn't wait to be finished with it. I think you might agree with me.

  152. I love anything with an old fashioned look. Batiks and the newer brights just never make it to my sewing room. Had my fill of those in clothing during the 70's. Thanks for the opportunity to add to my patriotic stash of scraps. I am currently making a quilt for my son to celebrate his retirement next year from the Army.

  158. I love civil war reproduction fabrics the most and have a hard time using brights in a quilt ( especially orange and yellow). I tend to bypass them completely in the quilt store and head straight to what I love. I will say that I try to make an exception if someone requests a certain color (example would be wedding colors). But, let me tell you how fast that quilt is finished so I can get back to what I like. Your scraps are exactly my taste, I would love to win them!!

  159. I have a wide range of what I do like, but what I don't like are fabrics with what I call cheesy prints like big orange and green florals that remind me of the 70s. Or things like chili peppers and weird cartoons. I guess that sort of out there type of prints is all I can think of to describe them. I prefer civil war prints and colors, but also brights like aqua and pink-within reason-not garrish--and I like shabby chic florals and rose prints, but not a fan of orange and will add it only if needed in small bits. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.

Novelty prints and the really bright more modern prints hold no interest for me. I will use background fabrics that are not reproductions if they play well with the other fabrics. 190. I love reproduction fabrics too! I would have to say that orange is a color I don't have and probably would never use. I like to make table runners and mug rugs, and tend to use scraps to do so, but I still stick to the darker colors.

    ReplyDelete
  191. I'm not particularly a fan of yellow. However, I think all colors have their place. Civil War repros and like fabrics have always been my favorites. Most of the quilts I make and keep for myself are made with reproduction fabrics. 192. No B+B, brights or batiks! Green and cheddar make it into my prairie quilting but they must be on the "muddy" side of the spectrum.
